There was excitement in the air as the children could not wait to get their hands on the books and read them! Thank you Emdad for supporting our school with your kindness and providing much needed resources that will benefit the children now and in the future.

Children designed their own internet safety posters to put around the school to remind others on how to stay safe online.

Science week dressing up day!

Another amazing day of amazing costumes

designed and made by the children to celebrate the end of Science week at Buttercup Primary. We are so impressed with the thoughtfulness and creativity of all the costumes worn today. Fantastic!

Parental involvement in Science week

For Science Week, Year 3 and 4 had a visit from a parent who is a dental nurse. She spoke to the children about what she does in her job and what science related subjects she needed to study for the job. The parent discussed how  to keep teeth healthy and the importance of brushing.

Year 5 and 6 had a visit from a carer who is a phlebotomist who takes blood samples from patients which are examined in a laboratory and the results can be used to quickly diagnose diseases and conditions.

The children were very engaged and expressed their interest in the question and answer session. Thank you to the parents for taking time out to talk to our children.

‘WORLD HIJAB DAY’

February 1st marked the annual World Hijab Day in recognition of millions of Muslim women who choose to observe the hijab. Its purpose is to encourage tolerance and respect between

everyone.

It was a beautiful event showcasing the love we have for  Muslim women. To celebrate this day, head scarves were handed out to the public by our school councillors.

We educated the public by explaining what a hijab was and why it was important for Muslim women. The interactions with the public were very pleasant and the children were brilliant when talking to passers by. Well done to our school councillors!

Hijab gifts-World hijab day

The girls at Buttercup were gifted beautiful hijabs by the headteacher Miss Zara, to celebrate World hijab day. They were reminded that the head scarf is not a barrier to prevent them from succeeding in life. Girls can dream big and become whatever they want and that the head scarf is not just a piece of material but their crown!

Celebrating World hijab day at Buttercup!

We celebrated World Hijab Day by wearing  beautiful hijabs of all colours and styles that belonged to someone that is an inspiration to us.

World Hijab Day is an annual event founded by Nazma Khan in 2013. The event takes place on February 1st each year in 140 countries worldwide. Its stated purpose is to encourage women of all religions and backgrounds to wear and experience the hijab to promote understanding, respect and tolerance.

The girls and boys honoured their special person by sharing why that person was an inspiration to them and highlighted the special qualities they possessed that made them unique.

Teachers shared their hijab journeys and reminded children that the hijab should  never stop them in pursuing their dreams.

Mad Science at Buttercup Primary

Up, Up and Away!

This spellbinding special show introduced the children to the principles of air pressure and flight. Children saw a hot air balloon rise into the air, flying toilet paper, and even got the chance to watch a hovercraft in action! It was a fantastic start to Science week, enjoyed by all!

The Apprentice challenge food sale

Each class had to come up with a product to sell as part of their Apprentice challenge using £20.00. As a result of the planning and learning, each class produced different food items to be sold in the food sale. Early years made cup cakes, Year 1 and 2 made cake pops, Year 3 and 4 made lazy cakes and Year 5 and 6 made pizza. We had a great turn out and sold everything! Each year group made a profit and passed their task! A very well done to all that were involved especially those children who brought their own goods to sell as part of their own little business.

Metro bank workshops with Key stage 2

As part of Maths week the key stage 2 children took part in a fantastic financial educational program with the Metro bank colleagues who are trained to provide children with financial awareness.

They came to the school over 3 days and ran workshops on banking, saving and budgeting. The children had the opportunity to work in groups to discuss the value of money and the importance of planning for the future. They also investigated how to make informed decisions about spending and saving habits.

A great start to future interactions with financial institutions!

Trip to the Metro Bank

The key stage 2 children visited the Metro Bank in Liverpool Street where they had a tour of the bank, explored the vaults and met the Metro man. By interacting with professionals from the real world it broadens their horizons and inspires them. It helps children understand various career paths and could spark interest in fields they might not be exposed to in their regular curriculum.

The goody bags were a hit too!

Maths hat competition!

We celebrated the end of Maths week with a bang! The children were invited to take part in a Maths hat competition to design and make their own hat inspired by the Maths topics they have been learning in school. We saw shape hats, number hats, time hats, weighing hats amongst others. We were really impressed with the creativity and enthusiasm that was put into the designs. A very well done to all the children who entered the competition!

Science Museum

The Early Years children had an amazing educational trip exploring the Science Museum in South Kensington. This term the children are learning about space. The experience gave the children an excellent opportunity to explore the space aquarium, observing first hand experiences of a space rockets, astronauts and planets. We had an amazing time. Well done to the Early Years team.

Anti bullying week assembly

This Anti-Bullying Week we came together to have discussions about what bullying means to us, how banter can turn into something more hurtful, and what we can do to stop bullying. We used role play to show children what to look out for and reminded everyone that bullying is not welcome in our school.

Anti bullying day-Odd socks at Buttercup!

As part of Anti-bullying awareness day, the children were invited to wear their favourite odd socks to school and to express themselves and celebrate their individuality. The odd socks also symbolises that everyone is different and at Buttercup we value everyone for who they are. Children were encouraged to  ‘Make a noise’ throughout the week and come together to have discussions about what bullying means to us, how banter can turn into something more hurtful, and what we can do to stop bullying. Together, we can make a difference and take a stand against bullying.

Pioneering Personalities week special assembly

We ended the week with a whole school assembly where children from each class presented their pioneering personality to each other. Year 2 presented Sir David Attenborough, Year 3 and 4 presented Imam Al Gazali and Year 5 and 6 presented Saiful Azam. The children highlighted key facts about the lives of these special people and why they were inspirational to us and showcased their fantastic posters. We were very proud of the confidence and public speaking skills displayed in the assembly!

Pioneering  Personality week in EYFS 2023

For Pioneering Personality Week the Early Years focused on the importance of Fathers and male role models. We organised a work shop where dads and uncles and other male role models were invited to come and take part in arts and crafts activities and play with their children. The children and the adults really enjoyed participating together. It was great to see a large turn out supporting the children. We hope to do plan more work shops like this in the future!
