Anti-Bullying Week

 

LO: To think about what bullying is and how to help yourself or others who are being bullied.

For anti-bullying, children engaged in various activities such as:

  • Identifying different types of bullying
  • l end a hand activity – children identified their support network through a framework- who they trust that they can go to for help in case of bullying or witnessing bullying.
  • Acted out scenarios and freeze frames.
  • Mean words go in the bin GAME: they wrote mean words on paper and then scrunched it and threw it in the bin.
  • Hand print poster to symbolise that Year 3 and 4 stand against bullying.
  • Wordsearch: key words highlighting bullying and explaining how they related to bullying and what they mean. Discussion held.
  • painting activity: every child involved. Printed their hands to symbolise WE STAND AGAINST BULLYING

Anti-bullying campaign at Buttercup

This year we have decided to remember Anti bullying day as ‘Kindness day’ to encourage and teach children to always be kind and respect each other. We discussed ways In which we could spread kindness through our actions and words. On Friday 20th November, for a small donation of £1.00, the children were invited to wear the colour green to school! We chose the colour green because it a neutral and peaceful colour that reminds us of the gardens of Jannah.

Anti-Bullying Week

During anti-bullying week, in EYFS we talked about the different types of bullying and how it can make us feel sad and upset. We drew a helping hand to remind us of all different adults that children can go to if we are ever worried about anything. We watched a power point on kindness, and we shared how to be kind such as by sharing our toys during free flow play, helping our friends, listening to them, and most importantly smiling and keeping cheerful because it is the sunnah of our prophet Muhammed (SAW).  We celebrated anti-bullying week on Friday by wearing green; our slogan was “wear green and don’t be mean!”

We start our day with kindness, by singing our Islamic greeting song: ‘Assalamu’alaykum, How are You?’

We spread kindness throughout each day by smiling J

We enjoyed reading the story: You’re Not Ugly, Duckling! By Steve Smallman. This book teaches us about the subject of bullying; also how to deal and cope with bullying.

By Year 5 and 6

Bullying is what we hate

Bullying is not our fate

Why are bullies here

No one should shed a tear

 

Bullies are bad

They make people sad

If they have rage

Lock them in a cage

 

Any bullying should not be allowed

No one should be up the cloud

Together we stand up to bullying

I don’t mind anything except for insulting.

Never make someone feel bad

 

Never make someone feel sad

Never make someone cry

Help them before the tears dry

 

Bullying is bad

It makes people feel sad

Bullying is mean

Don’t do it as a team

 

What makes you think it’s good?

To pull down someone’s hood

How would you feel?

If you got hit with wood or steel

 

Bullying is bad

It makes people sad

It drives people to suicide

And could end lives.

Bullying is bad

It makes others sad

We should stop bullying otherwise it makes others mad

Bullies do the crisis and we do the righteous.

Voting day at Buttercup Primary school

On Friday 9th October the children at Buttercup primary school had the opportunity to cast their vote and have a say in who they want to represent them in the school council. It was a difficult decision for them as all the candidates were so deserving. They also experienced what democracy looks like when you have the right to vote and make your own decision about what you believe in. We look forward to counting the votes and announcing the winners soon!

Pioneering personalities: Year 1/2

As part of pioneering personalities week, year one and two were involved in activities based on their assigned person, Diana Spencer. During the week, the children were able to familiarise themselves with Diana and who she was. Our activity included crown making, which allowed the children to make their own crowns using borders and designing/painting/colouring/sticking them with paper, cotton wool, stickers and feathers and much more. The children were inspired to make crowns from Diana Spencer’s tiara as she was a member of the royal family. The children had fun using their creativity skills as well as their motor skills to design beautiful crowns.

For Pioneering Personalities Week, in EYFS we celebrated the theme of “My Mother” because as our Prophet Muhammed (SAW) reminds us in this Hadith, she has a unique status:

A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship?

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

Your mother. The man said, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet said: Then your mother.

The man further asked, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, ‘Then who?’

The Prophet said: Then your father. (Bukhari, Muslim)

We loved singing the nasheed “My Mother” by Yusuf Islam every morning to reflect on all the wonderful things our mothers do for us. During this week we had lots of fun making lovely cards for our mums. We created flower bouquets for her and amazing gold jewelled crowns because she is the ‘Queen’ in our lives. We especially enjoyed decorating cup cakes with glitter, icing, chocolate chips, and sprinkles for our super-star mums! After all, as narrated in a hadith: “paradise lies at the feet of your mother.”
