Partner reading  around the school

The Year 3 and 4 children went down to the Year 1 and 2 class and the Year 5 and 6 children went down to the children in EYFS and spent time reading to them. The Year 1 and 2 children also got the opportunity to read to the older children. It was encouraging to see how well the Year 3 and 4 children listened and supported the younger children which really boosted their confidence in reading. The children in Nursey and Reception chose a book that they wanted the older children to read to them. It was inspiring to see how well the Year 5 and 6 children shared the books with the younger children. They demonstrated patience and kindness and it was a pleasure to witness.

Book exchange day at Buttercup

The children were encouraged to bring a used book from home that they have read and enjoyed to exchange with other members of their class. This way children got to take home a new book to read and enjoy, but without paying for it!

World Down Syndrome day 2023

On March 21st we observed World Down Syndrome day at Buttercup. The theme this year was ‘We call for people and organisations around the world to be With Us Not For Us’. Read for good Readathon!

We are really excited to share that the school will be taking part in the ‘Read for good’ readathon as part of our Book week which will take place from 20th March 2023.

Taking part in Readathon is a brilliant way to get reading and raising money to help provide much needed books for our nearest major children’s hospital.

All the children have to do is:

Choose what they want to read- anything they like, fact, fiction, audio books, blogs, comics, or magazines.

Children can ask family and friends (never strangers) to sponsor them per book, per page, per 10 minutes, it is up to them!

They then hand in the cash in an envelope with child’s details on it at the school along with their completed Readathon card by Friday 24th March 2023.

The money raised will be sent to Read for good who will help provide much-needed books for our nearest major children’s hospital In sha Allah.

What are we waiting for? Let’s get reading!

Charity bake sale for Turkey and Syria

The school organised a charity bake sale to raise funds for the victims of the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. The event took place on Friday 10th March 2023. Children, parents and staff  made and contributed cakes, biscuits, sweet cones, popcorn cones amongst other goodies to sell on the day.

The event was such a success and we managed to raise over £800 Ma Sha Allah! May Allah reward everyone for their efforts. Ameen.

WORLD HIJAB DAY’

To mark ‘World Hijab Day’ the school councillors at Buttercup Primary School went out to the public bearing beautiful gifts!

Under 100 hijab pieces were handed out to the public by our proud councillors!

It was an amazing way to bond with the         community and many were taken by surprise to be given a scarf for free.

It was a beautiful event showcasing the love we have for women.

The school councillors educated passers-by by explaining how a woman is honoured and seen in Islam, that their intellect is acknowledged   before any physical beauty.

Celebrating World Hijab Day at Buttercup Primary

We celebrated World Hijab Day by wearing beautiful hijabs of all colours and styles.  World Hijab Day is an annual event founded by Nazma Khan in 2013. The event takes place on February 1st each year in 140 countries worldwide. Its stated purpose is to encourage women of all religions and backgrounds to wear and experience the hijab to promote understanding, respect and tolerance. The girls and teachers enjoyed experimenting with different hijab styles and colours on the day and posed away for the camera!

Teachers shared their hijab journeys and reminded children that the hijab should  never stop them in pursuing their dreams.

Hijab gifts-World hijab day

The girls and the staff were gifted beautiful hijabs by the headteacher Miss Zara, to celebrate World hijab day. They were reminded that the head scarf is not a barrier to prevent them from succeeding in life. Girls can dream big and become whatever they want and that the head scarf is not just a piece of material but their crown!

Science Week in Year 1 and 2

For Science Week KS1 conducted a coloured flower experiment.  The aim of this experiment was to explore how water is transferred through the plant. This experiment demonstrated how plants transport water up the stem via the xylem, to reach the leaves and petals. Throughout the week we observed how long it took for the bright white flowers to change colour after adding non-toxic food colouring to the water.

We also studied how Allah SWT mentions in the Quran ‘We made every living being out of water’”. By relating this to our experiment we understood the significant role water plays by Allah’s will and how essential it is for living beings.

Investigating atoms in Yr 3 and 4

Science Week Year 3 and 4 children took a plunge into the world of scientific learning and discovery. They engaged in a practical lesson looking at plant and animal cells using a light microscope. The children were beyond amazed and intrigued by what they discovered. This lesson was essential as it deepened their understanding on how everything is made out of the smallest building blocks called ‘atoms,’ which we covered in the previous lesson.

Science week dressing up day!

Yet again another amazing day of amazing costumes

designed and made by the children to celebrate the end of Science week at Buttercup Primary. We are so impressed with the thought and creativeness of the

costumes worn today. Fantastic!

Litter picking day

<

Eco Ambassadors litter picking day

Our Eco Ambassadors are taking littering issues into their own hands, after piles of rubbish started to appear nearby.

Our Ambassadors didn’t want to just make posters to raise awareness but they wanted to be involved and so they proposed a school litter pick. Its fantastic to know our children care about our local community MashAllah!

It has been Narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira Radi Allahu Anhu that the, Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “While a man walks along a path, finds a thorny twig lying on the way and puts it aside, Allah would appreciate it and forgive him.”

[Sahih Muslim :: Book 33 :: Hadith 235]

Just remember this beautiful sunnah when you see a harmful thing on the road/path. Let us revive the Sunnah in every aspect of our lives Insha Allah!
