WORLD HIJAB DAY’

To mark ‘World Hijab Day’ the school councillors at Buttercup Primary School went out to the public bearing beautiful gifts!

Under 100 hijab pieces were handed out to the public by our proud councillors!

It was an amazing way to bond with the         community and many were taken by surprise to be given a scarf for free.

It was a beautiful event showcasing the love we have for women.

The school councillors educated passers-by by explaining how a woman is honoured and seen in Islam, that their intellect is acknowledged   before any physical beauty.

Celebrating World Hijab Day at Buttercup Primary

We celebrated World Hijab Day by wearing beautiful hijabs of all colours and styles.  World Hijab Day is an annual event founded by Nazma Khan in 2013. The event takes place on February 1st each year in 140 countries worldwide. Its stated purpose is to encourage women of all religions and backgrounds to wear and experience the hijab to promote understanding, respect and tolerance. The girls and teachers enjoyed experimenting with different hijab styles and colours on the day and posed away for the camera!

Teachers shared their hijab journeys and reminded children that the hijab should  never stop them in pursuing their dreams.

Hijab gifts-World hijab day

The girls and the staff were gifted beautiful hijabs by the headteacher Miss Zara, to celebrate World hijab day. They were reminded that the head scarf is not a barrier to prevent them from succeeding in life. Girls can dream big and become whatever they want and that the head scarf is not just a piece of material but their crown!

Science Week in Year 1 and 2

For Science Week KS1 conducted a coloured flower experiment.  The aim of this experiment was to explore how water is transferred through the plant. This experiment demonstrated how plants transport water up the stem via the xylem, to reach the leaves and petals. Throughout the week we observed how long it took for the bright white flowers to change colour after adding non-toxic food colouring to the water.

We also studied how Allah SWT mentions in the Quran ‘We made every living being out of water’”. By relating this to our experiment we understood the significant role water plays by Allah’s will and how essential it is for living beings.

Investigating atoms in Yr 3 and 4

Science Week Year 3 and 4 children took a plunge into the world of scientific learning and discovery. They engaged in a practical lesson looking at plant and animal cells using a light microscope. The children were beyond amazed and intrigued by what they discovered. This lesson was essential as it deepened their understanding on how everything is made out of the smallest building blocks called ‘atoms,’ which we covered in the previous lesson.
