Tower Hamlets-Junior Citizenship Scheme 2023

The Year 5 and 6 children took part in the Tower Hamlets Junior CitizenshipScheme that coincided really well with our Safety Week.  It took place in the Shadwell fire station where the children got the opportunity to learn citizenship and life skills with agencies such as Met Police Service, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service and Transport for London to name just a few. The children took part in interactive scenarios that taught strategies for leading a safer and more responsible lifestyle. The children came back with lots of new skills and aspirations of joining these agencies that help keep people safe.

Year 6 graduation ceremony

We celebrated the end of our Year 6’s journey here at Buttercup with a beautiful graduation ceremony. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the children’s time at our school, the relationships they made and their fantastic achievements.  Our year 6 Graduation Assembly is a very special event where we celebrate in song, poem, and awards. Many parents attend and really value this final event for their children. Well done Year 6 of 2022-23, we will miss you all and wish you every success for the future.

Year 3 & 4 end of year assembly

Year 3&4 parents were invited to celebrate their child/children’s achievement and learning. We began the assembly with Surah Rahman whereby Allah mentions His favours and implies how we should be grateful for our blessings. We carried out a role play and performed the nasheed ‘Allah Made Everything.’ The children presented their work; leaflets, posters and some artwork were put out on display for our parents to see. The children received certificates and medals. They were confident in performing and the assembly was enjoyable. The children have worked so hard this year and we are very proud of their accomplishments

End of year trip to Clacton on sea

We created beautiful memories on our end of year trip to Clacton on sea. The children had an amazing time playing on the sand, splashing in the sea and flying around on the rides. The day

ended with a yummy ice cream and a sing along on the coach!

International week at Buttercup

We ended International week with a bang. The children were invited to come to school dressed in special clothing in

celebration of each other’s native cultural identity which was a beautiful way of showcasing their differences and teaching

respect. One ummah, one body, one unity

Food week at Buttercup

To end food week with a bang, we arranged a food tasting afternoon where the children made and tasted food from the countries that they have been studying. EYFS  tried yummy fruits that grow in China from their made up chines restaurant. Ks1 experienced an English tea party, making cheese sandwiches and eating cakes. Year 3 and 4 made Brazilian tacos with a choice of different fillings. Year 5 and 6 made pani puris, a delicious street food sold in Bangladesh, Pakistan and India. Many children tried food that they had never tasted

Year 6 Careers day 2023

As part of the Year 6 careers day initiative, the Year 6 children were given the opportunity to meet and interview 3 parents from different professions and fields of work. They met a dentist/entrepreneur, a football coach/bodyguard and a care worker. The parents spoke about their careers and how they reached their goals. The children were really engaged and inspired by the professionals. They asked intriguing questions and took a keen interest in finding out more about these careers. Children challenged typical stereotypes by asking key questions such as whether or not women are found in careers such as football coaching. They were left inspired with the knowledge that women are increasing in many fields of work. We hope that this experience plants seeds of high aspirational goals into our children.

Colchester Zoo Trip

The Early years children had an amazing trip to Colchester Zoo. This trip was linked to our topic on `Animals’. We discovered and observed various animals that we have been learning about throughout our topic stories. The children and adults persevered walking in the summer weather and we had lots of fun. Well done Early years!

Trip to Cambridge University

As part of the school’s promotion to aspire to do great things and have high expectations, the Year 5 and 6 children visited Cambridge University (Clare college). They had the opportunity to experience the life of a university student and discover the opportunities that universities provide. There was a tour of the university, lunch was provided, and children took part in an art-based activity drawing a Triptych of Clare college.

Alhumdullilah this trip had a positive impact on the children as they came back wanting to go to university in the future and even attend Cambridge!

Launch of the Whitechapel Fountain

Year 3 and 4 were invited to the unveiling and restoration of the Whitechapel Fountain. The children previously visited the location when learning about the Romans in their history topic.

The Whitechapel Fountain stands upon the original site of the ‘white chapel’ that gave a name to the East London borough. The fountain dates from 1860, but was moved to its present location in1879. The project aimed to restore the stones around the fountain as it was in a poor condition. Some children performed their poems while others presented their posters. The children actively shared what they learnt about the history of the fountain and even participated in cutting the ribbon! They handed out leaflets to the public which had one of the children’s posters published on it. They were also given the opportunity to fill up their bottles and drink from the fountain.

The whitechapel Fountain project

The Year 3 and 4 children participated in a special workshop where they created posters on the history of the Whitechapel fountain and Altab Ali Park.

The children were taught about the important history of the Whitechapel fountain. They wrote couplet poems about the Whitechapel fountain which will be entered into a competition.

The children have been invited to the launch event of the Whitechapel fountain where the winners of the competition will be announced. The BBC One show will also be there to film the event. Exciting times!!!

Eid celebrations at Buttercup

We celebrated Eid together as a school community. The children wore their best clothes and brought in delicious food to share with their classes. We all had a great afternoon full of friendship, happiness and unity!

Hobgoblin theatre production at Buttercup

We ended Book Week with a bang by inviting the Hobgoblin theatre company to perform the stories,  ‘Jack and the beanstalk’  and  ‘Alice in wonderland’ to the whole school.

The stories were based around  story telling and empathising with characters. These interactive shows were enjoyed by all and kept everyone entertained and mesmerised!

Pyjama day at Buttercup!

This year our theme for Book week was ’Bedtime stories’. Children bought in their favourite bedtime stories to share with their class. To end the week, we invited all  the children and staff to be super snug, by coming into school in their

pyjamas!

Buttercup book sale!

We arranged our very own book sale to encourage children to buy books of their choice. There was a variety of fiction and non fiction books to choose from. It was great to see the enthusiasm shown by the children, many went home with a book or a handful of books that they were excited to read!

STOP, DROP AND READ!

Over the week, we played the ‘Stop, drop and read’ game in class. The rule of the game was whenever the teacher called out ‘Stop, drop and read’, the children had to stop whatever they were doing and grab a book to read. This happened in the middle of lessons, at break time and even while lining up!
