Transition afternoon at Buttercup Primary

We planned a lovely transition afternoon for the children to meet their new teachers, classrooms and classmates for next year. The teachers spoke about preparing to move to a new class/year group. They discussed strategies to manage transitions between classes and key stages. In Key stage 2, teachers spoke about problem solving strategies for dealing with emotions, challenges and change including the transitions to new classes. There was a lot of excitement in the air and it was great to see the children getting to know their teachers and making new friends. We are excited for the new academic year!

Fatiha’s Writers Award

Fatiha loved to write and was a fantastic writer. In her memory we introduced the ‘Fatiha’s Writers Award so that her legacy lives on at Buttercup Primary. This year, Mohammed Khadar was chosen to receive the award. It was presented to him by Fatiha’s dad which made it extra special. We hope to continue with this special writing award in the future to encourage creative writing and continue Fatiha’s legacy.

House team celebration

The winning house team with the most points this year was Umar Faruq!

The house team members celebrated their win with a delicious cream cake. Congratulations to team Umar Faruq, may you continue to flourish and set a fantastic example to the other teams.

Year 6 graduation ceremony

As we prepare to say goodbye to our wonderful Year 6’s, we celebrated their time at Buttercup Primary this week with a beautiful graduation ceremony. Throughout the celebration we sang nasheeds, read poems and performed to a room of very proud parents and teachers.

Early Years End of Year Trip

The early years visited the Diana memorial park playground for their end of year trip. The little children were so brave traveling on huge escalators  and public transport. The children experienced using the Queen Elizabeth line for the first time and were amazed at how huge the carriages were. At the park they had a amazing time exploring with sand, making sand castles and the climbing  obstacles.  We all had a amazing time.

Early Years Graduation

Ma sha Allah to the reception class for doing so well this year. We celebrated their achievements with a graduation party. Miss Nazma along side with the reception children worked hard to put together a fantastic show. They performed nasheeds and recited their favourite surahs, and acted out their favourite transport topic book Emma Janes aeroplane. To end the graduation Miss Nazma awarded the children with a lovely certificate and a gift. We also had  party food and a memorable slide show reflecting all the learning the children have done through out the whole year. Well done Reception, Miss Nazma and the team are proud of you and will miss teaching you all.

End of year trip to Clacton-on-Sea

The key stage 2 children had an amazing day out to Clacton-on-Sea where they enjoyed splashing in the sea, making sand castles, playing games and getting on rides. The weather was perfect and we ended the day with a yummy ice cream Alhumdullilah!

Cambridge University trip July 2022

As part of the school’s promotion to aspire to do great things and have high expectations, the children visited one of the best universities in the world, Cambridge university. This was  a great opportunity for the children to experience the life of a university student and the opportunities that universities provide. There  was a tour of the university and a museum workshop looking at artifacts found in Cambridge. The children came back feeling inspired and excited about going to university in the future!

European cheese tasting in Yr 5/6

Year 5 and 6 children had a cheese tasting session where they tasted a variety of cheese from European countries. They tasted Cheddar cheese, Emmental cheese, French brie cheese, Feta cheese, Ricotta fresca, Goat’s cheese and Crefee cheese which is soft cheese with garlic. They had to guess which country the cheese was from and why. The children enjoyed eating the cheese with crackers, bread sticks and bread. They learnt that cheese does not only come from England or the local shops but they are imported from different parts of the world. They explored the different tastes, textures and appearances cheese can have therefore understanding every cheese tastes different. They appreciated that cheese can be eaten with many things such as crackers, breadsticks, olives and more. The Italian cheese Ricotta fresca was the most popular amongst the children!

Food week for year 1 and 2

In year 1 and 2 we combined food week and international week together, focusing on the second largest continent Africa. We selected some of the most delicious tropical fruits from a previous trip to Watney market to eat for our fruit party. The fruits chosen were pineapples, grapes, watermelons, honey melons and oranges. After practicing the safe way of placing fruits in the skewers, we enjoyed choosing our favourite fruits and eating them as fruit kebabs. The impact of this lesson allowed for pupils to eat fruits that they may have not previously tasted and to understand the influence of trading between countries. Eating fruits from South Africa, Egypt and Kenya gave a whole new meaning to the daily experience of eating fruits.

International week around the school

As part of International week, each class learnt about a different country or continent. The children decorated their classrooms with flags, art work, fact sheets, artefacts and maps related to their chosen country or continent. The week ended with children understanding the differences between culture, creed, and race vs countries. Key stage 2 was taught about Asabiyah (nationalism) as opposed to being united upon the firm belief under the banner of the Shahadah. They understood that the ummah of Rasool Allah SAW is a global multicultural family and that what matters most is the belief in Allah.
