Buttercup visit to Sonali Garden 2019

As part of charity week, the school chose to gift our local elderly residents of Sonali Gardens (Sheltered accommodation) gift bags of food to enjoy. The children brought in food items to contribute towards the food bags. They were received with lots of smiles and gratitude. We hope this act of charity continues and the children learn to value the elderly members of the school community. Thank you for your support.

KS1 International week

KS1 loved International week! This is always a wonderful theme week to discover a new country or a learn a great deal about a country we already know. This week also allowed us to celebrate our cultural differences and shared similarities and values. We explored the country of Bangladesh! we found out fascinating rich history from this South Asian small country surrounded by territories. We discovered that Bangladesh fought very hard to establish their own language ‘Bangla’. A lot of lives where lost in the fight for this and this is represented by the red circle in the flag. The green represents the beautiful lush green fertile land.  During DT we learnt about the significance of fish in the culture, we particularly learnt about the national fish called ‘Ilish’.

International week assembly at Buttercup Primary

To end the week, a special assembly was organised, where each class presented new information about the country they learnt about. They shared facts, artefacts, languages and  art work that they worked on over the week and for homework. We celebrated similarities and differences in the most perfect way and took away new knowledge that will help us have understand and respect other cultures even more.
